The iPad or HTC Merge?

I have $500 dollars saved up and i was wondering whether to get an iPad or HTC Merge. i know the Merge is only $150, but im including the $30 data plan for 12 months. Ignore the regular phone fee, i have that covered. so, which one should i get?
