3d max files takes over 30 minutes to open?

Taken the file size is so large, I'd say there is some problem with your copy. Could you remove it completely and install it again? If it still persists, I'd recommend you to check program settings (perhaps it adds something to files), and also defragment your HDD (or even change to faster-access one, like 7200rpm or 10000rpm).
