How do I get my friends ?

How do I get my friends profile picture wen I am sending text mssges like I hve the HTC hhero and I want my friends profile pic as their picture. The HTC hero was my brothers and he gave it to me. He had the same thing with the profile pictures but idk how to do it. Do you guys know wht I'm talkn about lol
